Strukton compensates CO2 emissions with Gold Standard Certificates

Utrecht, 18 September 2009 –Essent and construction company Strukton have entered into a framework agreement for the supply of Gold Standard Certificates. For the forthcoming three years, Strukton will compensate the CO2 emissions of its gas consumption with Gold Standard Certificates, the highest available standard in climate compensation.

‘With the Gold Standard, Strukton gives further substance to its profile of a socially responsible entrepreneur’, reports Piet Fischer, head of Facilities Service at Strukton. ‘By offering these certificates, Essent has also been able to distinguish itself positively from other providers. Over the forthcoming months, we are planning to incorporate as many energy contracts of our fifty Dutch branches as possible into the framework agreement. The asphalt production companies will follow at a later stage.’

‘The Gold Standard fulfils the strictest requirements regarding climate compensation and is only awarded to new sustainable projects’, reports Auke van Stralen, manager of Value Chain Development at Essent. ‘Ultimately, Strukton's ambition is to be completely CO2 neutral and we want to help the company to do so. We have never before entered into a comparable agreement.’

By opting for these certificates, Strukton not only compensates its CO2 emissions, but at the same time contributes to future sustainable energy applications. Thus Strukton contributes to the transition from fossil fuels to clean, sustainable energy sources.

Gold Standard

Partially established by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Gold Standard is an independent quality mark. Validation of projects in respect of the Gold Standard requirements and verification and monitoring of actual CO2 reduction can only be done by independent organisations that are accredited to perform these activities under the UN Climate Treaty.
