Open infrastructure gives a boost to economic business activities in Twente

As from today, under the name @Work City Access, companies and institutions can obtain access to a truly open fibre-optic connection, at attractive prices. The connection is especially suitable for simultaneous telephony, data communication and internet traffic.
With @Work City Access, Essent Kabelcom has taken a big step forward in providing fast and efficient communication services in Twente, on the basis of a fibre-optic network accessible to everyone in Twente.

Superfast fibre-optic connection for every company and institution in Enschede, Hengelo and Borne

A growing number of companies and institutions cannot operate without a high-quality and reliable data connection for efficient operational management. With the implementation of a superfast fibre-optic network in the urban areas mentioned, these connections are now available. The speed in this network is ten to a hundred times faster than 'traditional' copper cables or ADSL. With @Work City Access, Essent Kabelcom offers unprecedented Ethernet connections from 100 Mb/s to 1000Mb/s (=1Gb/s).

Development Director at Essent Kabelcom, Bert Meijerink: “The current provision for companies and institutions is actually unsatisfactory on a number of points. There are too many cases of slow response times during the sending and receiving of information, the upload speeds are limited, the performance varies and is therefore unreliable and current broadband availability does not provide any opportunities for new business services. This is unacceptable for companies, businesses and local councils, since it is these very organisations that put the highest demands on the quality of the connections.“

An important point in @Work City Access is the fact that all the companies and institutions resident in the towns can take advantage of City Access, without being obliged to purchase services. That is to say that companies can purchase services from different providers via the City Access connection. These may be services from Essent Kabelcom, but also from other providers. If a company or institution decides to purchase services from another provider, Essent Kabelcom does not charge anything extra for this. Bert Meijerink: “In this way we in fact offer a complete and open digital market place for all the companies and institutions in Enschede, Hengelo and Borne, whereby people can very easily take advantage of each other's services and expertise. The infrastructure of these towns is therefore being given an enormous boost, making them more attractive as places of business for economic activities.”

Businesses and institutions in the five towns can have a data connection of 100-1000 megabits per second at their disposal from 275 euros per month. So, via this fibre-optic connection, internet, telephony and other data communication can be combined to their advantage.
