Insulating your home can save up to 30%

Recent research has revealed that home owners can save up to 30% on their energy by properly insulating their home. Essent wishes to contribute to this with the National Insulation Service. In just one day, the home can be insulated with the very latest methods and techniques, which increases comfort within the home and lowers energy bills.

The aforementioned research revealed a number of interesting facts. For example, the majority of Dutch households live in a house which has not been optimally insulated. Forty-one percent of Dutch households have no roof insulation; 51% have no cavity wall insulation and in as many as 66%, there is no floor insulation. The expected savings that can be achieved through insulating measures are estimated too low. On average, expectations are that insulation will result in a 22.5% saving on the energy bill, whilst a saving of as much as 30% is possible. The investment will be recovered in 3 to 5 years, whilst half of Dutch people think that this is 6 or more years.

National Insulation Service

By means of the National Insulation Service, Essent wishes to give everyone the opportunity to make fundamental savings on their energy bill. For Euro 1,800 on average, an owner-occupied house constructed between 1930 and 1983 can be insulted with cavity wall insulation. More recently built houses are usually already properly insulated. A VAT rate of 6% applies to the insulation that is used. Essent's energy customers are also able to pay for the insulation in instalments; this is also possible through GreenLoans, with which Essent is in partnership. GreenLoans finances green investments made by individuals. In addition to lower energy bills, the home owner will benefit from the increase in value of the house on account of a more favourable energy label once it has been insulated.
