Essent gets underway with a broad EconomyPlan for Shareholders

Strong incentive for local authorities and provinces to save energy

Energy concern Essent together with its shareholders is getting underway with a comprehensive programme for energy saving specially developed for its public shareholders: local authorities and provinces. The Essent EconomyPlan for Shareholders has two important aims: reducing CO2 emissions by energy saving and conservation and lowering the energy bill by energy saving.

Together with and via local authorities and provinces the EconomyPlan for Shareholders focuses on three target groups: households, the local authority/provincial organisation (and allied non-profit institutions) and the business market. Each shareholder is given an individual EconomyPlan with specific selectable solutions for the target group. Though, in order to be able to do this on as wide a scale as possible, Essent also offers shareholders the option of executing the plan jointly.

Essent Energy Services has the know-how and expertise to help the shareholder(s) to make a thorough analysis of the energy saving potential in a local authority area or province. On the basis of an extensive menu with different ways of saving energy for the various target groups, a concrete custom-made plan is devised for each participating shareholder per target group. You can view a short film and the menu of the EconomyPlan for shareholders at www.essent.nl/corporate.

Essent provides finance
Essent is investing a budget covering several years to encourage development of the EconomyPlans. The budget, already at a level of 5 million euros this year and 10 million euros next year, will be divided among shareholders on the basis of their share in Essent. The budget for 2009 will be fixed during the course of 2008 after evaluation.

Part of Essent EconomyPlan
The EconomyPlan for Shareholders forms part of the more extensive Essent EconomyPlan.

1. EconomyPlan for Shareholders.
Encouragement to save energy in cooperation with local authorities and provinces among private customers, companies and government. Aimed at taking concrete measures in each target group.

2. EconomyPlan for existing Essent market segments.
A programme of activities aimed at making aware, promoting understanding of consumption, providing solutions and removing barriers in order to take economising measures. Campaigns will be carried out via TV, radio and the internet. At www.essent.nl, a base has been created for all the campaigns and activities, where custom-made support and advice is offered. The following link takes consumers to the most important energy saving programmes:

This link gives consumers access to user-friendly, easy to understand (energy) economising programmes. The most highly recommended programmes are: ConsumptionMail, StopContact! and the ConsumptionMonitor.

3. A programme aimed at reducing energy consumption within the Essent organisation.
Among other things, it encourages awareness among staff, continuously monitors and reduces energy consumption in Essent offices and reduces and compensates for emissions by the vehicle fleet. This integrated approach is designed to ensure that the term energy saving really means something and becomes tangible. With its overall EconomyPlan Essent offers practical solutions which often contribute in a very easy and effective way to limiting emissions of CO2 and lead directly to lower energy bills.
