Bayerngas and Gelsenwasser extend novogate cooperation

Düsseldorf, 17.09.2008 - Deutsche Essent GmbH will be transferring its shares in the gas procurement platform novogate GmbH to the partners Bayerngas GmbH and Gelsenwasser AG. Novogate GmbH was established in 2006 as a joint venture with Bayerngas GmbH.

Essent integrates gas and energy activities into KOM-STROM

This transaction follows Deutsche Essent’s strategy to integrate the gas and electricity supply business in the German market into Leipzig-based KOM-STROM AG, in close cooperation with Essent Trading. The transaction is scheduled to be concluded by 31 December 2008. The remaining partners, Bayerngas and Gelsenwasser, will continue to develop the successful novogate business model. To this end, the acceptance of further partners and shareholders is not excluded. Initial negotiations in this direction are already being conducted.

Bayerngas GmbH
Bayerngas is the greatest municipal gas procurement platform in Germany with the partners Stadtwerke (municipal supply and service utilities) München, Augsburg, Landshut, Ingolstadt, Regensburg, Ulm/Neu-Ulm and TIGAS - Erdgas Tirol.

In 2007 Bayerngas sold 64.2 billion kilowatt hours of gas to its customers and generated a turnover of 1.6 billion €.

Bayerngas possesses its own gas storage facility and is a national and international player with its shareholdings in bayernets (independent network company), Bayerngas Norge (gas development and production), bayernSERVICES (technical services), actogas (gas trading), and novogate (gas distribution & consulting).

Gelsenwasser AG
The 121-year old heritage company from the Ruhr Area supplies drinking water or natural gas to households, town councils and communities, public utility companies and industrial companies in more than 70 towns and communities and also disposes of the sewage water. The companies within the GELSENWASSER Group secure the water supply, sewage disposal and energy supply for a total of  6.9 million inhabitants and numerous industrial customers in many German federal states as well as in France, the Czech Republic and in Poland. 92.89 % of GELSENWASSER AG belong to Wasser und Gas Westfalen GmbH & Co. Holding KG, a joint venture of Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG and Stadtwerke Bochum GmbH. Further shares are held by communities or are privately owned. The share is listed on the stock exchange.

Deutsche Essent GmbH
Deutsche Essent GmbH, Düsseldorf, has been operating since 2000 as a holding for the German shareholdings of the greatest energy provider in the Netherlands, Essent N.V., Arnheim. It pursues a long-term growth strategy and holds 51 % of the shares of swb AG, Bremen. Through swb AG the company also possesses shares of the energy providers in Bremerhaven, Bielefeld, Gütersloh, Soltau, Greifswald and Ahlen.
