Expansion of the electric transport charging infrastructure
Essent will be further expanding the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the Netherlands. The energy utility discussed this today with local council and provincial policymakers. To expand the charging infrastructure, Essent will use the charging points also installed by its parent company, RWE, in other European countries.
‘A lot has happened since we announced, two years ago, that we would be accelerating the introduction of electric transport in the Netherlands’, said Kjell Biezen, Director of Electric Transportation at Essent. ‘Now the time has come that we will focus even more on the expansion of the charging infrastructure in the Netherlands.’
New charging points
During a light-hearted ‘e-rally’ held today, there were discussions about the role taken by electric driving in the Netherlands, and the development of a public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Essent also presented new products for the Dutch market: a charging post for public spaces and charging points for homes and offices. Essent will include the outcomes of these discussions in the plans for expansion of the charging infrastructure in the Netherlands.
Test grounds
Within the framework of the ‘test grounds’ for electric transport, Essent will install charging points in The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam. In addition, Essent will participate in a number of tenders relating to charging points, currently being issued by various local councils.
Largest electric fleet
With 25 electric vehicles, Essent has the largest electric fleet in the Netherlands. In Leeuwarden, Essent recently opened its first fast charging station where electric vehicles can be charged within half an hour. Very soon, Essent will be installing new charging points at its Den Bosch office and at the Amer Power Plant in Geertruidenberg.
