Responsibility at Essent
Whether it is the production, procurement or sale of energy, our relationship with our employees or our contacts with our clients, we always seek a balance between the interests of our company and of society as a whole. That is what defines Corporate Responsibility at Essent.
Essent and Responsibility
We consider Corporate Responsibility a natural component of our operations. And since we are the largest energy supplier of the Netherlands, this obviously means that we (traditionally) focus extensively on achieving sustainability in energy supply. But CR at Essent goes beyond climate issues. We also focus extensively on issues such as diversity, safety and our role as a corporate citizen.
People, Planet, Profit and Power
Corporate Responsibility to us means that a company, in addition to striving for profit (Profit), also takes into account the environmental effects of its operations (Planet) and that it has an eye for their impact on the people in and outside the company (People). The better the balance between this ‘triple P’, the more sustainable the results for the company and for society.
Essent has added a fourth P to this 'triple P' – Essent’s 'Power' stands for the (sustainable) energy we supply and, above all, for the energy and passion with which we implement our Corporate Responsibility.

Social roles
Essent is a full member of the society in which it operates. Four roles characterise us as an organisation:
- Essent as a corporation produces goods and services that it adapts to market needs.
- Essent as a market player sells its products and services to the market, and buys products and services from other suppliers.
- Essent as an employer provides people with jobs.
- Essent as a corporate citizen is a participant in society and a fellow citizen.
-
Spearheads
Our efforts focus on the following nine spearheads:
- Emission reduction
- Share of sustainable energy in the fuel mix
- Energy saving, including the efficient use of basic materials and fuels
- Innovation and knowledge management
- Customer satisfaction and quality labels
- Good employment practices
- Human rights
- Corporate citizenship
- Working safety
In dialogue
From our various roles in society we are in contact, and enter into dialogue, with different stakeholders such as shareholders, non-governmental organisations, communities near power plants, employees and clients in order to find the right balance between the interests of society and Essent. The most essential dialogues are included in our CR annual reports. We also enter into dialogue with the Netherlands through targeted dialogue campaigns on the internet, discussing topics such as electrical transport and local energy solutions.
